The Malghe Tour: High-Altitude Trekking from Posa Puner Hut

Beyond the clouds: the authentic soul of the Prealps a stone's throw from the sky

Imagine leaving behind the neat embroidery of Miane's vineyards to climb where the air becomes sharp, silence turns to music, and the sky seems almost within reach. The Alpine Hut Tour, with its 1330 metres altitude at the start from Rifugio Posa Puner, is not a simple excursion: it is a rite of reconnection. It is that moment when the frantic rhythm of the valley dies down, replaced by the ancestral sound of cowbells and the scent of dew-kissed grass. Walking along these ridges means traversing a natural balcony suspended between the Venice lagoon and the majestic peaks of the Dolomites, a place where every step tells the tale of the toil and passion of alpine life. It is a journey that we The Court of Marga We love to define “soul-refreshing” an experience we want to give you to make you feel, even just for a day, an integral part of this heroic and wonderful land.

The Trail: Step-by-Step

The route follows white roads and well-marked paths (TV1 white-red and TV5 brown).

1. The Departure and the Donor's Temple

From the small church located near the Posa Puner Refuge (1330 m), take the slightly uphill forest road following the CAI signpost “TV1”. Along the track to the Monte Cimone, The view opens onto wide pastures dotted with characteristic “pose” (waterholes for livestock).

2. Malga Mariech and the Balcony over the Cesen

The highest point of the tour is Mariech Alpine Pasture (1504 m), a true natural balcony over the plain and the Monte Cesen group. Here, alpine farming is alive and well: during the season (June-September), it is possible to witness life in the mountain pastures and purchase local dairy products.

3. Return among Beech Trees and Mountain Huts

The path continues, touching Malga Forconetta, Malga Budui e Malga Federa. The final stretch immerses us in a splendid beech forest before returning towards the Monti Salvedella and the Pylon, closing the loop again at Posa Puner.

🥂 The Sommelier's Award: Verdiso and Malga

After 13 km of walking and 500 metres of elevation gain, the palate demands a reward that matches the effort. While the mountain huts offer flavourful and rich cheeses, our technical choice for pairing falls to the Verdiso.

Verdiso produced in the Miane and Combai areas is distinguished by a marked acidity and a pleasantly bitter aftertaste. These characteristics make it perfect for “cleansing” the palate after tasting a rich, semi-matured mountain cheese.

In the glass, you'll find the freshness of the foothills: notes of green apple and white flowers reminiscent of the crisp air breathed at Malga Mariech.
