Just a few minutes' walk from the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Carmine, along a path that leads into the woods, lies one of the most atmospheric — and least known — places in Miane: the Landrel Cave.
It is not a sanctuary in the classical sense. It has no façade, no bell tower, no churchyard. It is a natural cave in the rock, reachable only on foot, where for centuries the people of Miane have brought their most silent devotion.
The Landrel Cave houses a statue of the Madonna set into the living rock. Local tradition links it to legends of healing: over the centuries, those seeking a grace — for themselves or a sick family member — would climb up here, away from the village, on a more intimate and less public pilgrimage than the one that leads to the Carmine.
It is what the locals call, with an expression that says it all, an “earth faith”: not made of solemn architecture, but of a direct relationship between those who pray and the natural place where they pray.
The most beautiful way to get to the Grotta del Landrel is on foot, starting from La Corte di Marga. The most direct route partly follows the “Strada Vecia” that climbs up to the Santuario del Carmine, before turning off onto the Landrel Traila more hiking-oriented variant, with a vertical drop of around 150 metres to the Landrel fork, which requires suitable footwear for the woods and about 45 minutes of walking from Carmine.
Those who take on this variant leave behind the gentler “historical route” and tackle a wooded section with steeper gradients — but are rewarded by an atmosphere that changes completely: the rustle of leaves gives way to the dripping of water on rock, the humidity of the cave creates an almost ancestral microclimate, and the light barely filters through the trees.
It is an experience designed for those who, after visiting the Sanctuary of Carmine, want to extend their walk a little further and discover a corner of Miane that few people talk about.
As with the other stages of religious tourism in the Treviso Prealps, the Grotta del Landrel also has its traditional gastronomic pairing: mountain cheeses and honey, a pairing that recalls the rural and pastoral life of these hills — that very peasant world which for centuries has brought its devotion right up here.

It is accessible on foot: you first reach the Sanctuary of Carmine (about 30 minutes along the “Strada Vecia”), then continue along the Sentiero del Landrel for another wooded section of about 45 minutes in total from Carmine.
Is any special equipment needed?
The section towards the Sanctuary of Carmine is suitable for everyone. The Landrel Path, on the other hand, is of a hiking nature, with steeper gradients: trekking shoes are recommended.
What can be seen inside the cave?
A statue of the Madonna embedded in the rock, a destination for popular devotion linked to legends of healing — a place of silence rather than a monument to be photographed.
