A short distance from Miane, the lakes of Santa Maria and Lago (known as Laghi di Revine) form a body of water that is a true open-air historical archive. In winter, when fog slowly rises from the reeds and ice can ripple the shores, the charm of this place becomes almost mystical.

Prehistory: The Village of Livelet

The shores of the lakes were not always so quiet. In the Neolithic period, this valley was home to an active and ingenious community.

• The Piles: Archaeological findings have confirmed the presence of pile-dwelling settlements. Today, the Livelet Park reconstructs three types of prehistoric dwellings, providing insight into how our ancestors managed hunting, fishing and weaving.
• A protected ecosystem: The lakes are relict glacial basins that have preserved a unique micro-environment, fundamental to the biodiversity of the Pre-Alps.

The Winged Lion: The Seal of the Serenissima

The influence of Venice came through, leaving indelible marks in the local architecture and heraldry.

• The Lion of St. Mark: Walking through the village of Revine Lago, one comes across the symbol of the Venetian Republic: the Winged Lion. Carved in stone, the Lion was not just a decorative frieze, but a tangible sign of Venice's protection and dominion over these strategic valleys, which provided timber and resources to the lagoon city.
• Venetian Architecture: Many historic farmhouses and palazzetti in the area recall the Venetian style, with the skilful use of local stone and portico structures, ideal for protection from the winter climate.

Winter at the Lake: Trekking and Silence

In winter, the main activity is the slow and contemplative trekking.

• The Tour of the Lakes: A flat route of about 7 km connects the two basins. It is perfect for those seeking an invigorating walk in the open air without excessive inclines.
• Birdwatching: Winter is the best time to observe migratory birds wintering in the reed beds. Take binoculars with you: the silence allows sightings that would be impossible in summer.

What to see at the Revine Lakes?
In addition to the Livelet Archaeological Park with its pile dwellings, it is possible to admire evidence of Venetian rule, such as the Stone Winged Lion in the village, and to walk nature trails ideal for winter trekking.
