Lanificio Paoletti: The Thread that Unites Centuries in Follina

There are stories that cannot be read, but only touched. For guests of Court of Marga, the time travel begins at just 2.5 kilometres away, in the hamlet of Follina. Here, the rhythm of the looms Lanificio Paoletti has been beating uninterruptedly since 1795, telling an epic of family, material and territory that is unparalleled in Europe.

Visiting the Lanificio, especially when rain is falling on the stones of the nearby abbey, means entering a “vertical manufacture” where memory is transformed into avant-garde fabric.

The Origins: A Thread Starting from Miane

The Paoletti family’s story is inextricably linked with our land. Originally from Miane, In the late eighteenth century, the Paoletti family arrived in Follina as skilled weavers of fine cloths. They chose Follina for the life-giving energy of its river, the same watercourse that, since the 12th century, thanks to the work of Cistercian monks, had made this village the beating heart of the wool trade.

From its founding in 1795, For ten generations, the family has guided the company through industrial revolutions, two world wars, and changing tastes, keeping one promise: the protection of a deep-rooted and authentic wool culture.

Vertical Manufacturing: A Complete Cycle of Passion

In a world of fragmented production, Lanificio Paoletti is an extraordinary exception: a Full cycle manufacturing. Here the wool still arrives “dirty”, freshly shorn, and undergoes every stage of processing — washing, carding, spinning, weaving, and finishing — under the same roof.

This “verticality” isn't just a technical process, it's a philosophy of control and love for the fibre. Every centimetre of fabric that leaves Follina carries with it the knowledge of craftspeople who have passed down their trade for centuries, uniting high craftsmanship with the demands of the most prestigious international fashion houses.

Philosophy and Values: Alpago Wool

From the awareness that wool is the story of a community, the project was born in 2009 “Lana dell’Alpago”. In collaboration with the Fardjma cooperative, the Lanificio has recovered the fibre of a sheep breed at risk of extinction, transforming a raw material destined for waste into a virtuous model of Circularity economy.

These fabrics do not undergo chemical dyeing; they retain the natural colours of the fleece (grey, brown, white), offering a material purity that speaks of respect for nature and for humanity. It is a return to the origins that looks directly to the future of sustainability.

The Textile Archive: Heritage as a Vision

The oldest part of the woollen mill houses the’Textile Archive, a goldmine for designers and scholars. Here, samples, records, and design tools dating back to the 1800s are kept. This archive is not a static museum, but a tool for innovation: the textures and colours of the past are studied and reworked to create the collections of tomorrow.

Gourmet Break and Sommelier's Tip

After exploring the “skin” of the city, treat yourself to a break at Ristorante La Corte at Villa Abbazia.

The Sommelier's Pairing: To accompany a day dedicated to carded wool – a structured, warm, and just the right amount of “rough” fabric – we're looking for a wine with the same character. I recommend a Colli di Conegliano Rosso DOCG, A Bordeaux blend that in this region acquires a unique mineral sapidity. Its tannic structure, dense yet velvety like fine wool cloth, and its bouquet of small black fruits and spices, create a perfect counterpoint with the robust dishes of the local tradition. It is a wine that “dresses” the palate, just as a Paoletti coat protects from the cold.
