The Prosecco Hills Trail: 51 km of pure emotion among the UNESCO “cordonate”

The Prosecco Hills Trail it is not a simple hiking trail; it is a journey into the heart of a “cultural landscape” that UNESCO has recognised as unique in the world. It is an itinerary of 51 kilometres (divided into four stages) which winds its way from Vidor to Vittorio Veneto, following the ridge of the World Heritage site's core zone.

As a host The Court of Marga, I consider this path the definitive key to understanding our territories and wines. Walking here means treading on the “cordonate” (hogback), those parallel and steep ridges that forced our ancestors to invent heroic viticulture. Facing the 2,265 metres of positive elevation gain It is not just a physical challenge, but a way to feel firsthand the effort hidden within every glass of Prosecco Superiore DOCG.

The Stages of the Journey: A tale of land and toil

The itinerary is designed to be experienced over four days of slow walking, each with a distinct geographical soul:

  1. Vidor – Col San Martino (11.7 km, 4h 30m, Elevation gain 567m): The route begins at the ancient Abbey of Santa Bona in Vidor. This stage is an immersion in the vineyards surrounding the historic village, where the slopes begin to make themselves felt, introducing the walker to the perfect geometry of the “ciglioni”.
  2. Col San Martino – Follina (15.4 km) 5h 30m. Elevation gain 655m.): It is the most spectacular and technical stage. You walk along the ridge line of the “cordonate”, enjoying a 360° view stretching from the plains to the Prealps. It is here that you can admire the famous “Chiocciola” (Snail), an embroidery of rows of vines that defies gravity.
  3. Follina – Tarzo (14.3 km) 4 hours 30 minutes, Ascent 460 metres ): After visiting the Cistercian Abbey of Follina, the path delves into more wooded areas, among chestnut groves and ancient farmhouses, revealing the wildest and most introspective side of the hills.
  4. Tarzo – Vittorio Veneto (10 km): The final act. Descend towards the Revine lakes to then ascend towards the last ridge, concluding the journey in the splendid historic setting of Serravalle. Two variants exist, one more challenging and one more comfortable.
  • Demanding variant suitable for experienced walkers 9.6 km 4h 30m Altitude gain 583m): Starting point Tarzo, 4 November Square, Destination Vittorio Veneto, Piazza del Popolo
  • Easier variation (9.1 km 3h 30m. Altitude gain: 312m): Starting point Tarzo, Filippini Street, Arrival point Serravalle, Piazza Flaminio

Here, you will not only receive hospitality but also technical advice on the route and transfers to the starting point of each stage on request. You will learn to distinguish, by observing the terrain during the stages, why a wine born on the Rive di Miane has a different saline verticality to one born downstream. After the kilometres covered, our swimming pool and the selection from my Wine Shop will be your natural “medicine”.
